London 2012
Olympic roadshow sprints into town

VISITORS to an Olympic roadshow will be able to find out how they can benefit from the 2012 games.

The event is touring all 33 London boroughs and is in The Glades shopping centre, High Street, Bromley, today (January 22).

It reaches Woolwich town centre on 23 February and the Downham Health and Leisure Centre, Moorside Road, Downham, on February 24.

The roadshow will be in Bexley in March.

It is being run by the London Development Agency (LDA) and London 2012 to tell residents how the games will benefit culture, sport, business regeneration and jobs in the capital from the investment in London's transport system to local borough sports schemes.

The roadshow is aimed at the whole community with a variety of activities including fitness and reflex tests, a 'great sporting moments' photo opportunity and a heart rate monitor.

There will also be the opportunity to find out how aspiring artists can audition to perform at the official Olympic torch handover ceremony in August.

LDA chief executive Manny Lewis said: "The roadshow is a fantastic tool to highlight how the LDA is delivering a legacy now through the Games.

"We want to engage as many people as possible with the training programmes and job opportunities.

"Our goal is to get 70,000 people across London into work by 2012.

"The borough visits will also reach out to local business communities.

"We will be able to offer advice in preparing their services for the Games and how to compete for contracts in everything from construction and tourism to hospitality and technology."
