A FORMER pop singer has appeared in court after publically stripping off for the sixth time in 12 months.

Janette Sewell, who sang with Simply Red between 1985 and 1987, was spotted flashing her breasts at other passengers on a 208 bus by an off-duty police officer last Friday evening.

The 43-year-old was clipped by a bus in London Road, Orpington, after she had been made to get off and was found on the ground stripping off her clothing and singing.

Bromley Magistrates' Court heard yesterday how Sewell continued stripping and singing at the Princess Royal University Hospital, Farnborough Common, Locksbottom.

Hospital staff refused to treat her after she became abusive and she was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Sewell, of Spur Road, Orpington, pleaded guilty and told the court she wanted to be in the dock to express her view the town's youngsters need somewhere to go to harness their potential.

The mother-of-one wants to convert one of the empty shops in the High Street to a place where youngsters can go rather than hanging around on the streets.

She thinks it would make them feel appreciated and stop the problems Orpington has with residents feeling threatened by gangs of yobs.

Mitigating for herself, Sewell said: "Did I kill anybody or hurt anybody? I want something for the young people because 10 and 12-year-olds are asking me for drugs. The young people need a building because Orpington is a ghost town."

She added: "I'm not ashamed to get naked because it was the way I was born."

Sewell was fined £65 and ordered to pay £55 costs. She also owes £95 relating to a previous offence.
