COUNCIL workers have been striking over a pay rise offer which is below inflation.
Eight workers from Gravesham Council went on strike on July 16 and 17 over a national pay rise offer of 2.45 per cent which they claim does not account for current fuel prices and rising inflation.
The workers took action individually after members of the local branch of the council workers' union, Unison, voted not to picket during the national two-day strikes.
A council spokesman said: "A very small number of members went on strike with no impact on services.
"Gravesham Council is pleased that its long running and continuous good relationship with the local Unison branch has ensured that services to the public are not affected."
No staff from Dartford Council went on strike. A spokesman said: "The council is not part of national pay bargaining and this dispute does not directly affect us."
