World of plants on offer at fair

Sue Marshall shows off her her irises at the plant fair NK10993

AN ANNUAL plant fair at a castle has attracted more than 1,000 people.

The fair at Lullingstone Castle in Eynsford was organised by horticulturalist Tom Hart Dyke, whose family owns the estate.

Plant enthusiasts braved scorching temperatures of 35C to look inside the cactus house.

They also had the chance to spend time in the World Garden, designed by Mr Hart Dyke, which is laid out in the shape of a map of the world.

Mr Hart Dyke said: "It was too hot for some people.

"An ambulance was called for someone who was overcome by the heat.

"The plant hunters were back looking for plants. They knew their stuff, which is great for me.

"I'd never met half the people but as soon as we spoke about plants it was like meeting an old friend."
