School opens recycled stage

2:49pm Thursday 15th May 2008

A SCHOOL in Orpington has unveiled a stage in its playground made entirely from recycled plastic.

Pupils and staff at Midfield Primary School, Grovelands Road, Orpington, designed the stage, which also has a planted backdrop.

It was made from 3,021kg of recycled material - the equivalent of 63,441 plastic milk and washing up bottles.

The stage will be used by the school, which has 251 pupils aged between three and 11, for music and drama performances.

Headteacher Wendy Seeley said: "I firmly believe expressive arts underpin pupils' development and it's not only about improving the playground but also to heal the planet."
