YOUNGSTERS are set to decide which book should win an award.

The Lewisham Book Award was set up by secondary school librarians to champion books for young people.

Each year they pre-select a shortlist of books which are read and discussed by pupils in secondary schools across Lewisham, with a vote to decide on the winner.

An event at Lewisham Library, Lewisham High Street, on February 7 will see young people from several schools working in teams to present one of the shortlisted books to the group.

Author Sam Enthoven, who wrote the shortlisted The Black Tattoo, will judge the best presentation.

Also shortlisted are The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas by John Boyne, The Wave Runners by Kai Meyer, The Book of Everything by Guus Kuijer, The Outlaw Varjak Paw by S F Said and Hybrids by David Thorpe.

An overall winner of the book prize will be announced in March.
