THEY may be high and dry but a group of Bexley primary school children have take to rowing in a big way.
The youngsters at Sherwood Park Primary School, Sherwood Park Avenue, Blackfen, do their rowing in the school gym, after the school bought a Concept2 rowing machine to help improve the children's
fitness.
Pupils were so keen on the idea they have formed their own indoor rowing club and now compete in a national school league.
The Year 6 boys' team is called Bevan's Boys, after PE teacher Jason Bevan, and the girls' team is called Girl Power.
They train every Friday and are currently lying ninth and 10th in the country.
The children picked up some tips on technique from visiting rower Jane Axam from Erith Rowing Club.
The teams have been promised the chance to row on Danson Park lake in the summer.
