Sarah Parker, 31, who lives opposite the scene of the crash in Well Hall Road, said: "We had just got back in from a party and as soon as I sat down I heard it.

"It was like a big boom.

"My husband phoned the emergency services and went out to try to direct the traffic.

"We have lived here nine years and it's the worst crash we have seen.

"The police were still here at about 9am.

"I couldn't sleep properly after that because the emergency services were dragging the children out of the car. A little boy was screaming and a man was comforting him.

"It really affected us yesterday.

"It was just awful and it's so upsetting that it was a family in that car. It's horrific.

"The front passenger seat was on the back seat. The car was that squashed.

"I just feel for their family."

There were no other vehicles involved in the incident and there have been no arrests.

The circumstances of the crash are not yet known.
