PEOPLE in Erith have been surprised to discover a new “nightclub” in their town.

GC Nightclub opened in an industrial warehouse in Fraser Road, Erith, on Saturday night.

But it will not be a permanent feature in the nightlife of the town. Its existence will be limited to only 15 days in a year.

Bexley police licensing officer PC Eddy Boston says it was operating within licensing laws as the man running it successfully applied for a temporary event licence for a music night.

PC Boston said flyers had suggested pole dancing would be part of the entertainment, but when police and a Bexley Council licensing officer visited the venue at around 10pm no pole dancing was being offered.

The club, which plans to open again on Saturday, was operating a bar, had properly licensed door staff and can legally stay open until 1am.

PC Boston says under licensing laws the venue could be used for 12 such events over 15 days in a year.

The owner of the warehouse has agreed to apply for planning permission for a change of use to a nightclub, after being told he could be prosecuted.
