AMONGST those celebrating a call-up to the Olympic team this week was a Blackheath surgeon.

Amer Khan, a consultant orthopaedic surgeon for Blackheath Hospital, has been selected by Olympic organisers to provide specialist treatment to athletes and officials during the Games.

Mr Khan, who will be on call throughout the event, specialises in all problems of the shoulder and knee and has particular expertise in modern surgical keyhole techniques for multi-ligament knee surgery.

The surgeon said: "It is a fantastic honour to be part of a team of individuals who have been selected for this position during the games, when the eyes of the world will be on London.

"Having been selected for my expertise and experience I am confident that should something happen we will be able to respond quickly and put into practice our years of rigorous medical training."
