Lewisham - where men die younger and homes are repossessed

LIVE in Lewisham? Then you're in a home repossession hotspot and you're likely to die earlier than most Londoners.

That's the cheery news from two surveys published this week.

According to stats from homeless charity Shelter, Lewisham is the fourth worst place for home repossessions in the whole country with 6.51 claims per 1,000 homes compared to the 3.5 average.

Shelter’s Chief executive Campbell Robb, said: "Most people think that repossession will never happen to them, but rising unemployment, high living costs and even higher house prices mean that many people are living close to the edge already, and risk falling into a spiral of debt and repossession."

And if that's not bad enough, a Bureau of Investigative Journalism health study showed a man in Lewisham Central lives for 70.8 years on average compared to 88.3 in wealthy Kensington and Chelsea.

The death-rate figure will be distorted by all the teens knifing each other. It needs to stop.

There are no 70.8 yr olds involved in knife crime and in the absence of this would live to the comparator age of 88 years unless you know something about these (Saga?) gangs that we don't.

These figures seem a bit unrealistic. Unless you are talking about outsiders coming in and trying go make a fast buck because lewisham now has the under ground. I was brung up in lewisham and nun of my peers are in this spot of bother.
