FORTY-ONE years after Prince Philip opened a youth club’s sports hall he is coming back to perform more opening duties.

Next Tuesday (May 22) he will be opening the Bromley and Downham Youth Club’s recently built extension which houses a boxing gym, kitchen and art room.

The club in Valeswood Road, Downham, wants to speak to anyone who has memories and photographs of the Duke of Edinburgh’s last visit in 1971.

Anyone who can help should email Philip.cheverton@ntlworld.com

The extension was partly funded by a £50,000 donation from Bromley Council.

Portfolio holder for resources Councillor Graham Arthur said: “I’m delighted that our community fund has helped the club build on what is a very impressive history of supporting young people in the area.”

The club dates back to 1934 when it was founded as a boys club.
