FLAMES from a bonfire caused a shed and tree to catch light several hours after it was thought to have been put out.

Firefighters were called to a garden in Adamsrill Road, Forest Hill, at around 1am today (March 27) after a tree and shed caught fire in the middle of the night.

The shed was well alight by the time the crew from Forest Hill arrived and it could not be saved but they managed to stop the fire spreading to fences and nearby properties.

It took them around an hour to deal with the incident.

White watch crew manager Josh Smaller says they believe the fire was caused by a bonfire not being put out properly yesterday and the flames creeping towards the shed over several hours.

Mr Smaller said: “With the weather being so dry, if people must have bonfires they should keep them small and away from sheds and fences.”
