A sign proclaiming ‘This Air is Toxic’ was on display in New Cross Gate as artists protested against the high levels of air pollution in the area.
As part of a week of events in New Cross Gate, artists created a series of pieces aimed at highlighting London’s problem with air pollution.
Ros Gray lives and works in New Cross and has been involved in the project, and said: “Air pollution is a serious concern for me.
“It would be great to think about how we might galvanise parent concern in New Cross to campaign on this issue in our local area.”
Other art pieces include people dressed up as traffic wardens chasing away people dressed as smoggy clouds through London.
Last month researchers at Goldsmiths University found pollution levels in Lewisham, Deptford and New Cross are six times higher than the World Health Organisation recommended limit.
