An 84-year-old man had his lifelong dream fulfilled after he was treated to a one-on-one tour round the stadium of his favourite football club.

John Gurney is a massive fan of Millwall FC but nowadays he lives in the care home Sunrise of Frognal’s House in Sidcup.

Thanks to the care home's Making Memories initiative, lifelong fan John was taken on an exclusive tour of The Den by the club’s director, Peter Garston.

Mr Garston's Harry, who is Frognal’s director of community relations, organised the trip having spoken to John about his passion for Millwall and his desire to go back to the stadium “at least one more time”.

The tour included visits to the stadium’s press lounge, the chairman’s office, and the trophy cabinet, and drew on the expertise that both Peter and Harry have about the club and its grounds.

Harry Garston said: “John really enjoyed his visit to Millwall Football Club’s stadium, which allowed him to delve into the club’s history and explore every inch of the grounds, from the changing rooms to the trophy cabinet.

“It was a special occasion for three hugely passionate Millwall fans to be able go around the stadium together, sharing stories about the club’s past, and our experiences watching the team.

“Organising outdoor trips for residents is a vital part of what we do at Sunrise of Frognal, as it allows them to ‘make memories’ and develop their many interests”.
