A raffle has been restarted in Blackheath offering up a £1.3m home as the prize.

Renu Qadri attempted to raffle off her family home in Hardy Road in May but the competition fell through when Greenwich Council stepped in.

The council alerted the seller it was illegal under the Gambling Act of 2005.

Mrs Qadri has now reinstated the competition, insisting that it is all legal.

Speaking to the News Shopper, she said: “Originally, it snowballed really quickly. I wasn’t prepared for it to happen like that. It went global.

“I am relieved that it is all up and running again, thanks to advice from the Natwest. It has taken a long time.

“I want to be able to give my donation to Psoriasis Association and I want to thank people for their support so far.”

The competition was originally set up to raise funds to give to two charities as well as allow the family to control the sale of the property.

Explaining on the contest website, it said: “After buying our home in 2014 we are now struggling to pay the mortgage due to disability, and have tried but failed to sell the property through traditional routes and we would like to avoid repossession.

“After talking to many estate agents and quick buy companies, we believe it is in our best interest to take the sale of our property into our own hands, whilst offering someone else the opportunity to own and enjoy the property as their own.”

If 575,000 paid entry tickets before December 27 they will donate £25,000 to Psoriasis Association and £25,000 to Wateraid.

The house is set over two levels and is a detached property near Westcombe Park.

The five bedroom home is being raffled off and will be given fully furnished to the winner.

Continued on the website, Renu said: “We would like to express our sincere thanks to The Royal Borough of Greenwich Licensing Department and Steve Irving, Private Banking Manager for NatWest Bank for their valued assistance and support in helping us to get this contest reinstated.

“After an agonising period of dealing with various payment merchants who have rejected our applications on the basis that it does not adhere to their terms and conditions. We are pleased to have found an alternative solution through our new payment method of bank transfer.”
