A £1.25m house in Blackheath is being raffled off for just £5 a ticket because the owner wants “somebody else to enjoy it.”

Renu Qadri, who lives in the house in Hardy Road, has launched a raffle to sell her traditional five-bedroom property.

She said she is hoping to raise £10,000 for Wateraid and Psoriasis Association.

UPDATE: The woman selling her £1.25m house in a raffle has had to stop - but she says it wasn't a scam

Renu said: “The raffle will run for six months, we want to sell 750,000 tickets.

“I have five children, only one left living here. I think it is time somebody else gets to enjoy living here.”

The family have lived in the home for 20 years, but there are too many stairs for Renu to climb due to her psoriasis.

Renu said the family is struggling to afford to keep the house and, having put the property on the market earlier this year, the family have decided to raffle the house off to avoid losing it.

Her kids, the youngest of which is 21, think the idea is crazy.

Renu said: “They think I’m mad, but on the other hand they do think it is a good idea.

“London is the hardest place to buy a home and it is time for somebody else to live here, I think it is time we downsize.”

If the raffle does not reach its target of 750,000 tickets by November, then the leftover pot will go to one ticket holder once fees have been paid.

Tickets are priced at £5.

Renu said: “We hope to sell 750,000 tickets to include our cost such as PayPal, administration and legal fees.

"20 years is a long time, we have had lots of good memories.

“All my neighbours and friends are asking about it everyone is interested.

“ We want to take the sale into our own hands and give somebody else the chance to enjoy this wonderful house.”

The raffle winner will get the detached house overlooking Ingleside Gardens and minutes from Greenwich Park.

There are five double bedrooms, a dining room, reception and kitchen diner, all coming fully furnished for the lucky winner.

The website, homeraffler.com, went live on Sunday.
