A murder investigation has been launched after a five-year-old boy died following an incident in Mountsfield Park, Catford.
Police were called to a south London hospital at around 1.45am on Monday, November 21 after the child was admitted with critical head injuries.
The child had been taken to hospital by ambulance from an address in Bromley borough around 8.30pm the previous evening, on Sunday, November 20.
The boy died on the afternon of Tuesday, November 22 and the investigation was passed to the homicide and major crime command.
A post-mortem examination held yesterday, November 24 gave cause of death as head injuries.
Marvin Iheanacho, 38, of Wesley Avenue, Hounslow, was arrested on Monday and appeared at Bromley Magistrates' Court the following day charged with GBH with intent.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Woolwich Crown Court on December 20.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Lynes, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are appealing to find any witnesses who were in, or near to, Mountsfield Park, Catford between approximately 17:15hrs and 18:45hrs on Sunday, 20 November, and are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard anything regarding an incident involving a man in the company of a child."
Officers will be conducting appeals one week on at the park in Catford where the victim was injured.
