A woman from Bellingham was left feeling “sick” after her dog brought a decapitated kitten into her house, sparking fears the moggy was killed by the M25 cat killer.

Alison Newnham said her dog had brought what appeared to be a pair of decapitated cat’s legs into her house at about 9am on Thursday morning.

She said: “I was nearly sick - it was a pair of cat’s legs. It looked like a proper clean cut.

“I’ve got a million things going through my mind. I’m not going to let my cats out this morning. I’ve got a side gate and I’m thinking someone must have thrown it over.

“In the summer we have BBQs and we normally have chicken and stuff so I thought [my dog] had buried and dug up some chicken. It wouldn’t be the first time.”

Ms Newnham thinks the killer is human, rather than a fox or another animal.

She said: “I’ve never had a fox [in this area] kill a cat. I’ve lived round here for six years and I have three cats.

“Over on the green there are foxes and loads of cats and none of the cats have been harmed. The foxes never touch them.”

The kitten is the third this week to be collected by South Norwood Animal Rescue and Liberty (SNARL), which is investigating a spate of cat deaths within the area of the M25.

More than 50 cats have been killed in the last year, largely focusing on the Croydon area, leading to the killer being dubbed the ‘Croydon Cat Killer’.

The moniker changed to the ‘M25 Cat Killer’ as the number of deaths spread further afield.

There are fears there could be multiple killers following reports of mutilated cats up and down the country.

A SNARL spokeswoman said: “Whilst we strongly suspect this was not a predation-related incident, particularly as this is the third set of kitten remains this week, we will need a vet to tell whether this is human or animal related.

“We were also called out to a mutilated fox in the Dartford area. This body bore some of the hallmarks of the M25 animal killer.

“Both sets of remains were collected and are now with the team for review. Rest in peace beautiful babes.”
