Police have released a 16-year-old boy who was arrested on Wednesday (September 14) after two videos of a young thug booting unsuspecting cats and sending them flying into the air went viral.

The videos show a male with his back to the camera coaxing the felines over before suddenly kicking them with such force that they are launched across the street.

One of the videos, posted on Facebook by Tyrese Collins from Catford, has now been removed but was viewed more than 1.5 million times.

The second now has 325,000 views and more than 1,000 comments, with outraged social media users deeming the attacks "sick" and "evil".

Pet Abuse UK also condemned the animal abusers involved in making the videos on Facebook, calling them "pathetic".

A spokesman for the Met Police said: "Police are investigating a video purporting to show cruelty to an animal taking place in south London.

"The video was was brought to the attention of our digital contact centre by social media users."

The boy was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and has since been eliminated from police enquiries.

Enquiries have now established that the offence took place in Epsom, Surrey.

Surrey Police will be investigating.
