A person has died after being hit by a train at Sydenham Hill station this morning.
The British Transport Police were called at 10am and the London Ambulance Service also attended the scene.
Police are working to identify the person and the incident is not being treated as suspicious.
Edward Lawrence, 22, was on the packed 9.50am service from Bromley when the train struck a person.
He said: "It slammed to a stop, we had a bit of speed and then completely slammed to a stop.
"The announced they hit someone coming out of the tunnel."
He said the train then continued on to Herne Hill.
Mr Lawrence added: "The conducter said the driver was distraught and in shock.
"Somebody got off the train in a reflective jacket, they came out of the front of the train and legged it."
Hollie Luxford, a PR account executive, was sitting in the front carriage of the train.
She said: "We came through the tunnel and I heard a bump, I looked out the window and all these people come rushing to the platform and I thought, oh God, we've definately hit someone.
"There was one girl who was really shaken up, she was saying that she heard the driver scream and swear."
Miss Luxford, 25, added: "To be fair to the driver, he was very good, he said he would drive us to Herne Hill.
"As soon as they had information they told us.
"He sounded very shaken up and I instantly thought the worst."

Stuck between Beckenham Junction and London Victoria. Train slammed to a stop. Apparently an incident has happened outside of the train.
