Firefighters rescued four people, including two children, as flames engulfed a flat above a shop in Forest Hill on Sunday (August 14).

The London Fire Brigade (LFB) was called to the fire in Stanstead Road at 10.14 and needed more than two hours to get the fire under control by 12.35.

The three-room, second floor flat was badly damaged and crews led a man, woman and two children to safety from the building.

The man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service and the woman and two children were assessed on the scene by ambulance crews.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters and officers from Forest Hill, Lewisham, West Norwood, Beckenham and New Cross fire stations were at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
