A hairdressing team are crowdfunding to secure a new home in Deptford after being evicted from the caravan they’ve been operating from since 2010.

Run by partners who go by the names of Tuttii Fruittii, 27, and Toni Tits, 25, the Tuttii Fruittii Trailer Salon has styled itself as “London’s only non-binary hair-sculpting salon”.

For the last six years, the pair have been property guardians at the council-owned Old Tidemill School yard and run their business from there.

But the space is due to be turned into private apartments in July and the team have until then to find a new home and move out.

Toni told News Shopper: “The clock is ticking. They have given us two months.

“We need to find people who believe in more creative businesses who want to fight the harsh environment in London.

“Small businesses on our level need to find alternative ways to operate.”

News Shopper:

They have found a new space for the salon on Deptford High Street in the basement of an old egg shop, and if they raise the money to lease it by the end of May the landlord has promised it will be theirs.

Toni says: “We would fit in perfectly on Deptford High Street – everyone embraces us in the community.

“We have so much love for the area and we should be there.”

Toni and Tuttii say they have something unique to offer, as they don’t confine their clients to traditional male and female hairstyles.

Toni says: “We cater to the LGBTQI community and are inclusive – yes, there are unisex hairdressers, but if you look at barbers, they want to keep it all men so as not to alienate men already there.

“But that just alienates people who want to go there and have that service who aren’t men.

News Shopper:

“It is important to us that people can come in and not be judged.”

So far the twosome have managed to reach around £3,000 of their £20,000 target, which includes refurbishment of the basement and the lease, as well as equipment.

Those who pledge money to support them to “keep the unique hair experience alive” can get a range of services and treatments or handmade artwork for their generosity.
