A New Cross man has been jailed for importing more than 1kg of crystal meth into the UK disguised in cigarette packets.

Renato Pieterse, from Robert Lowe Close, was sentenced to four years behind bars at Woolwich Crown Court earlier this month.

The sales rep, originally from South Africa, pleaded guilty to importing a Class A drug with ‘the intent to evade a prohibition’.

They found 1.6kg of crystal methamphetamine, and arrested 32-year-old Pieterse at the scene.

The drugs had an estimated street worth of £275,000, and were hidden inside a parcel disguised as packets of cigarettes.

As well as prison time will have to pay £1,000 in costs after admitting the charges in September.
