For better or worse, most Londoners are loyal to their city - and you can’t blame them as living in the capital can be great.

But there’s no denying London comes with its own burdens and stresses.

New data from a survey conducted by Unit One Architects has revealed exactly what grinds the gears of Londoners, from rent prices to public transport. Has your pet peeve made the list?

The cost of living

This is top of Londoners’ hit-list, with 43 per cent of city dwellers declaring the overall cost of living their least favourite thing about the capital.

Unaffordable properties in particular were given a big thumbs down by the people of London, which undoubtedly make the overall cost of living more of a concern for the city’s less wealthy inhabitants.

The people

Attitudes are the cause of great annoyance in London, as it turns out bad manners are the thing 16 per cent of Londoners hate most about living there.

Thirty per cent of 25-34-year-olds in London cited this as their ultimate grievance, so is the issue of poor etiquette isn’t restricted to older people.

The ‘every-man-for-himself mentality’ was also raised as a specific concern, shedding further light on the bad manners so many Londoners loathe.

Many locals expressed their hatred for the sheer volume of people in London, suggesting that congestion is an issue extending far beyond road traffic. It looks like the city’s reputation as a bustling metropolitan hub isn’t something its inhabitants are necessarily happy about.

Public transport

Commuting is a key part of London living, not to mention a primary source of aggravation for the city’s residents.

With Londoners looking for ways to cope with the reality of the morning commute, this unavoidable aspect of daily life brings with it a multitude of headaches for locals forced to spend a portion of their lives in transit.

Twelve per cent of Londoners say public transport is the worst thing about the capital, with locals citing hot, crowded Tubes and Underground strikes as things they particularly hate about commuting through this fast-paced city.

Queues

It looks like impatience is a feature many Londoners share, with queues taking eight per cent of the vote.

Queuing is seen as a quintessentially British pastime, but for people living in a city as congested as London it can take up a lot of their precious time.

On top of that, a number of the city’s residents have a hard time coping with the traffic - so from waiting in lines to grinning and bearing rush-hour gridlock, queues appear to be the bane of many Londoners’ lives.

Tourists

Visitors aren’t well received by some Londoners, with tourists coming under fire from eight per cent of the city’s inhabitants.

London’s diversity is one of its best-loved attributes, thanks in large part to its high volume of visitors from across the UK and abroad - but not all of the capital’s population are keen on the popularity of their city.
