A single mum from Mottingham with two young children has blasted Affinity Sutton after she claims she has been left with a kitchen which poses "serious health hazards".

Jade Grace, 32, moved from Hampshire to Stofield Gardens in January under a house swap, hoping to start afresh in the capital.

Ms Grace, who has a two-year-old named Layla and son, Jamal, one, only saw photos of the house before agreeing the swap.

To her horror she claims the previous tenant had "stripped everything", leaving her with barely any units, cupboard doors or tiles.

She says it was referred to Affinity Sutton who told her she was not due for a new kitchen until 2020.

"I thought it just needed a few doors and a bit of tiling doing, it's a serious health hazard.

"I’ve got young kids; the hot water pipes are exposed, the gas valve is right by Jamal's head, he can twist it and turn the gas on and off."

She says contractors and surveyors from Affinity Sutton have come round numerous times, promising to fix the kitchen.

She told News Shopper: "The work was scheduled to start in June, they did half the job and propped up the work tops with wood.

"I still have the tiles and the floor under my units from when they started but never finished.

"It was supposed to start again today (September 24) but I’ve been left in the lurch again.

"Four times I’ve cleared my whole kitchen out because I was told work is about to commence."

She claims she booked a day off college after being told contractors were coming round.

Ms Grace in the kitchen with her children

Ms Grace added: "I’m depressed because I’m panicked about my kids going anywhere near the kitchen, I’m living in fear.

"I’ve been pushed from pillar to post; it’s not acceptable.

"I want my kitchen fixed so it’s in a safe state and I’m not worrying about my kids.

"If my kids were older I don’t think I’d worry so much.

"Plates and pans are heavy if it lands on my kids, if anything falls from a height it’s going to cause serious damage."

After being contacted by News Shopper, a spokesman for Affinity Sutton said: "We are investigating the delay in completing Ms Grace’s kitchen and will look to arrange an appointment as soon as possible to progress the necessary repair work."
