A man in his 30s was found dead on the Sydenham Hill estate yesterday evening (August 21) and police have recovered a gun near to the scene.

The Met Police have launched an appeal following the death which is currently being treated as unexplained.

Officers were called at around 8pm to a man found unresponsive in the bushes.

Paramedics from the London Ambulance Service arrived and pronounced the victim, who has not yet been identified, dead at the scene.

A Met Police spokesman said a firearm was found and recovered nearby.

Forensic experts have been at the scene while a police cordon near sheltered accomodation Mais House on the Lammas Green estate remains in place.

Officers have informed the man's next of kin but formal identification awaits.

A post mortem examination will be scheduled in due course.

Enquiries continue and no arrests have been made.
