Lewisham police officers have been recognised for saving six lives including a man stabbed 13 times and a moped-rider trapped under a car.

A total of 12 officers have been commended at Lewisham police station by borough commander Detective Chief Superintendent Kate Halpin.

Forest Hill, August 20 2014, 9.20pm

One officer has been commended for saving the life of a man who had been attacked from behind and stabbed 13 times with a 27cm long knife on Devonshire Road.

PC Dan Beegan, who was first on the scene, cut off the 44-year-old victim’s clothes and applied pressure to his largest wounds to try to stem the bleeding.

He managed to keep the victim conscious and establish he knew his attacker, who was later arrested, charged and found guilty of attempted murder.

Lewisham, October 12 2014

PC Jack Collins rescued a moped-rider who became trapped under a car in a crash on Lewisham High Street.

The officer, noticing the man was crushed under the full weight of the vehicle and struggling to breathe, found a car jack before raising the vehicle to give first aid.

With the help of other officers and bystanders, PC Collins slowly moved the injured man, who was seen by paramedics and has fully recovered.

Lewisham, June 21 2015

A crowd of up to 30 drunk, hostile party-goers attempted to drag three officers away from a man who had been stabbed as they tried to help at a house in Lewisham Road.

Undeterred, PC Elizabeth Delves, PC Barney Newman and PC Daniel Knowles managed to carry the victim out of the house.

Paramedics arrived and his chest was cracked to reach his heart to save his life.

Party-goers would not assist police with their investigation and no arrests have been made.

Sydenham, May 23 2015, 1.15pm

Two officers saved the life of a man in his 40s, who collapsed in public toilets in Sydenham Road after taking a drugs overdose.

PC Matthew Ell and PC Nick Wolf carried the man out of the toilet and discovered his condition was critical as he struggled to breathe and was turning blue.

The pair administered first aid until paramedics arrived.

Brockley, Christmas Eve 2014, 10.40am

Two PCSOs came across a man collapsed in Brockley Road, after having a heart attack.

Karen Quinn and Heather Watchorn, who have served as PCSOs for a combined 17 years, immediately started CPR and called an ambulance.

Catford, November 4, 2014

Three officers on routine patrol in Bromley Road were flagged down by the public to an elderly man who had collapsed in the street.

PCs Steve Atkins, Clare Pearce and Andrew Collins immediately called for an ambulance and took over from an off-duty nurse who had commenced CPR.

Without the officers' quick thinking, it is believed the man would have died at the roadside.
