Police attended a suspected burglary in Lee on Saturday night but instead found a person had been locked out of their house and was trying to climb inside.
A member of the public had grown concerned and alerted police after spotting someone trying to clamber inside a house on Pitfold Road at around 9pm.
But officers arrived to find the person had been locked out of their house and was just trying to get inside.
Twitter user Ben Cordier, who posted a picture of the scene on Twitter, described hearing shouts and a commotion.
He said: “My girlfriend could hear shouting such as ‘I haven’t done anything.’
“The police were inside the house for at least an hour.”
A Met Police spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.59pm last night to a suspected burglary.
"Officers found it was someone who had got locked out of their house."
