A mystery vigilante dubbed the ‘Bromley Batman’ said he would prefer to be known as ‘The Shadow’ as a fourth person claimed they had been rescued by the crime-fighter.

The masked crusader first leapt into action when he allegedly rescued a city worker from a knife-gang mugging in Bromley last Monday (June 8), the Evening Standard reported.

Two more people later told the newspaper they had seen the have-a-go hero in action in Lewisham and nearby Penge.

The crime-fighter has now spoken out anonymously saying he is ‘younger than 50 and older than 25’ and patrols lots of areas around London most nights despite holding down a day job.

He claims he began his war on crime three years ago, has a “beautiful beard” and hates the name ‘Bromley Batman’ preferring ‘The Shadow’, whose comics he enjoyed as a boy.

Meanwhile, a fourth person has told News Shopper he was rescued by the masked man around 10 weeks ago in Chinatown shortly after rush hour.

Victim Ian claims he was set on by staff outside the back of a restaurant after he asked if they would be interested in selling him some produce for his catering business.

He said: “I was threatened with violence and actually hit in the face twice.

“The man who had hit me seemed like a real gangster type and I’d obviously made a huge mistake in approaching them in any sense of business.

“I was kicked out of the restaurant violently with diners still eating.

“I was hit one last time and people walking by outside refused to even notice it had happened.”

Feeling sorry for himself, Ian said he began walking along Gerrard Street when a man, resembling the south London hero came up behind him.

He described him as dressed in all black, with a beard and a black, bandana-like mask.

“He told me to stay out of Chinatown as the restaurant I went into was linked heavily to triads,” Ian said.

“In hindsight I got home and I am still alive and breathing and I didn’t continue to ask around because of him. I thought triads in London were a thing of the past.

“I don’t know what may have happened if I’d continued to do so. I just want to thank this man for possibly saving my life.”

But ‘The Shadow’ says there is no need for any of the people he's helped to thank him.

“Just raise a glass or something and then forget about it and get on with your lives - I wish you all well," he told the Evening Standard from an anonymous email account.

"I just want to make a difference and leave this world a tiny bit better for the younger generation to inherit.

"I got sick of seeing crime on the news and in the papers with rarely anyone willing to step in and help people in need."

Despite four alleged sightings of the bearded legend, police say they have received no information of the masked vigilante.
