Government figures show Bromley has the second highest number of loans in London under the Help to Buy scheme.

The housing scheme launched back in 2013 aims to help taxpayers who can afford a mortgage but not the rising deposits.

Buyers can put down a five per cent deposit with a government guarantee on the next £30,000.

Figures released earlier this month, covering the period from its launch in October 2013 until March 31 2013, show that Bromley received 191 loans under the government’s flagship housing scheme.

Bexley was given 177 loans followed by Greenwich with 159 and Lewisham with 121 loans under the scheme.

Dartford received 129 loans to date, and Gravesham only had 93 completed loans.

Housing minister Brandon Lewis said: "Anyone who works hard and aspires to own their own home should have the opportunity to turn their dream into a reality."

The figures showed Help to Buy has helped nearly 6,000 people in London alone buy a home.
