Editor Andrew Parkes is a man with many thoughts, here are just five he’s had this week.

1. Were you aware it was rabbit awareness week all last week? Nor was I, though I am aware they completely undermine my decking and eat all my plants. I’m also aware I need a gun to keep their numbers in check. But I don’t think there is ever any justification to use myxomatosis to control their numbers.

2. In brewing news I’m delighted to announce that the first batch of particularly delicious ale Shopper Gold is now in casks and ready for you to taste. You’ll need to go online to our website to discover where you can get a pint, but be quick, I’m told the Hare and Billet in Blackheath has sold out already.

3. What is up with the Goldsmith’s University diversity officer who claimed ethnic minority women are incapable of being racist? She’s tweeted “Kill all white men” and started calling people “white trash”. Not exactly diverse is it? No wonder her student colleagues want her removed from her “job”.

4. What a joy to see a picture of bluebells on our letters page this week. I know they don’t last long if you pick them and put them in a vase, but they must be one of the most beautiful flowers in their natural setting, perhaps the only exception is a bourgainvillia on a white wall with the sun glinting through a half-finished lager – but bluebells are a close second.

5. And finally, I’m delighted to report that work is coming to an end on our very special 60-page anniversary magazine. You will be able to order this one-off publication very soon and the very special price of just £2 – you won’t get better value than that for 50 years of history.
