A 43-year-old man has been found guilty of sexually assaulting and robbing a woman in a Lewisham park on Halloween.

Julian Kingston Fenton grabbed and kissed his victim, a woman in her 20s, and despite her protests sexually assaulted her at Hilly Fields Park on October 31, last year.

He stole the woman’s bag as she escaped, Woolwich Crown Court heard yesterday (May 15).

Fenton was not previously known to his victim and had got talking to her in Adelaide Avenue before taking her to a shop to buy drinks, which they took to the park.

Officers from the Sexual Offences Exploitation and Child Abuse Command investigated and Fenton was arrested in November.

The victim’s missing handbag was discovered at his home in Algiers Road, Ladywell.

Fenton made no comment during police interviews but the woman picked him out at an identity parade.

Detective Constable Dupe Mfon said: "This was a violent sexual attack on the victim who had to fight Fenton off.

“I commend her bravery throughout the process and hope that this result brings her some comfort."

Fenton, who was found guilty of sexual assault and robbery, will be sentenced on June 11.
