A prolific Blackheath burglar with 45 previous convictions has been jailed following a fresh spate of crimes.

Mark Robertson, 38, of Ravens Way, was jailed for four years for a string of burglaries in Greenwich and Bromley.

At the time of his arrest on September 16 last year Robertson was still on licence after being released from a four year jail term for eight burglary offences and three vehicle taking offences.

When police attended his address, they found Robertson hiding in a wardrobe.

On August 22 last year, Robertson stole cash, iPods, computers and photographic equipment after breaking into an address in Palace Road, Bromley.

He also stole an Audi from outside the house, which was found abandoned three days later in Cambridge Drive, Lee, just 300 yards from his address. Robertson was later forensically linked to the vehicle.

On September 3 last year, Robertson broke into the home of an 89-year-old woman in Manor Way, Blackheath, stealing cash and bankcards.

At around midnight Robertson was captured on CCTV attempting to use a stolen card at two cashpoints in Lee Green.

Despite being forensically linked to the stolen Audi, Robertson continued to deny the burglary and vehicle taking, but was found guilty by a jury. Robertson also denied the burglary in Manor Way despite CCTV evidence of him using the stolen bank cards, before changing his plea mid-trial.

He then pleaded guilty to a burglary in Brookway, Blackheath, on August 29 last year in which a 55-inch TV was stolen, along with a Samsung Tablet, Samsung Galaxy Note and bank cards.

He was jailed at Woolwich Crown Court today (April 23).

Greenwich Police's Serious Acquisitive Crime Unit's DC Carly Walker said: "Robertson is a prolific criminal who through his offending has caused his victims a great deal of distress.

"The sentence handed down today will ensure our communities are protected from further offending by him."
