We asked you to share great pictures of south-east London and north Kent – and you didn’t disappoint us.

Our Cover Photos competition sought a new iconic image of the area to sit atop our Facebook and Twitter pages.

Dozens of eye-catching entries were submitted including some that could be vintage postcards and others that could be stills from the Lord of the Rings movies.

Here are our favourite 20 pictures from the contest, with the most outstanding photo that we’ve chosen as our winner at the bottom.

Thanks to everyone who entered.

The photo which stood out the most for us and which we’ve chosen as our winner is this image submitted by Jon Snapaway (a photographic ‘stage’ name rather than an extremely fortunate family name!).

His picture taken from Charlton shows the Thames Barrier with The O2 and more of the London skyline in the background.

Jon said: “I must admit it’s a cracking shot and I was lucky with the lighting that evening down there.

“It’s one of my fave places to shoot the London skyline from.”

Jon, born in Greenwich but now living in Medway, wins £50 for his winning photo. The picture will also be used as our new Facebook cover photo and Twitter header.
