There are 2,800 children without a permanent home in Lewisham, according to figures released by Labour's Tessa Jowell.
The figure for Lewisham children in temporary accommodation during the last quarter of 2014 is up by nearly 1,800 on figures for 18 months earlier.
Over in Greenwich, there were only 643 youngsters in the same position, though this was also up by 329 compared to two years ago,
Ms Jowell said: "It’s heartbreaking to see so many children in Lewisham growing up without the basic necessity of their own home. The fact that nearly 3,000 Lewisham children are homeless is bad enough. But if you look at London as a whole, the situation should shame us all.
She said: "Inequality is robbing these children of their childhood. We have to build more houses, we have to tackle the inequality in London and we have to start binding our city back together to build one London not two."
