Not sure where to go? Read on for Chinese New Year celebration parties across London for all ages.

For those of you keen to get in to the spirit of things, News Shopper has scouted for some of the best events happening this weekend.

1. The National Maritime Museum in Romney Road, Greenwich, is holding a selection of workshops and performances.

Celebrating Chinese culture it will of course feature the traditional lion dance.

The free event takes place this Saturday (February 21) from 11am.

2. Naturally, the pièce de résistance  will be held in the centre of London.

Every year Trafalgar Square is transformed into an explosion of colour and people.

Starting at 10am from the great square, a dragon and lion dance will take to the stage.

TOP STORIES
While the parade makes its way around London towards China Town, entertainment will continue on the big stage.

Dances and performances - including the famed dragon and lion - will take place at different points throughout the day.

Make sure you are back at the sqaure for the big finale from 5-6pm with fireworks.

But, while partying all weekend is not discouraged, this event takes place on Sunday (February 22).

So make sure you are not too hungover from Saturday night.

3. For those of you with a younger audience to entertain, the National Gallery is hosting some workshops for youngsters.

The gallery, also in Trafalgar Square, is holding a sing-along in English and Mandarin for ages two to five from 11-11.40am, and 1-1.40pm.

A Chinese mask-making workshop for ages five to 11 runs from 12pm-2pm.

If your youngsters are more musical they can try their hand at playing ancient Chinese instruments.

Starting from 10.30am, it runs at intervals until 3pm for those aged five to 11.

In the elusive Room 29 (we don’t know what’s in there either) help create giant puppet to parade through the galleries (watch those masterpieces!) for all ages from 11am-2pm, and 2pm-4pm.

The fun packed day takes place this Saturday (February 21).

4. China Town near Leicester Square.

Need we say any more? It goes without saying that this part of London will be where the heart and soul of the celebrations will be.

Lined with restaurants serving Peking duck to dim sum, it is worth the trip this weekend to revel in the Chinese festivities.

5. Last but not least, for those of you who are not a fan of crowds with dancing giant lions, there is always the sofa and a takeaway.

Put your feet up, pick up the phone and order a Chinese takeaway.

See? Something for everyone this weekend.
