Rapper Professor Green launched a Twitter rant about the proposed mansion tax.

The Lewisham hitmaker, whose tracks include 'Lullaby' and 'Little Secrets', debated with fans and branded the tax as "stupid."

The rapper tweeted: "Just reading up on the proposed mansion tax and rent caps, what stupid ideas.

"Hey - you worked hard your whole life, the area you bought your house in boomed and now we want your money."

If permitted, the proposed tax will introduce an annual tax on properties worth over £2m.

However, his tweets were not met with enthusiasm as other uses tried to persuade him otherwise.

Jonnyward21 tweeted: "I think the argument is if you can afford a certain home, you can afford to pay more towards society."

The star refused to give in and replied: "There's no logic in what you're saying, not everyone with a home over certain value can afford it."

Born as Stephen Manderson on 27 November 1983, Professor Green was raised in Hackney by his grandmother.

He started rapping at a young age and found mainstream success in 2010 with his song 'I Need You Tonight.'

This is not the only time he has caused controversy on Twitter.

In 2010 he caused an uproar by claiming that bulimia is "an intelligent eating disorder."
