A proposed extension of the Bakerloo Line through Lewisham may be at least 15 years away but it is already needed and should connect to Bromley town centre, a council says.
In a draft response to Transport for London's consultation on plans to extend the line from Elephant and Castle, Lewisham Council says the move "is already required to address existing pressures on the transport network".
The response says Lewisham station should be remodelled and the extension would enable another 10,000 homes to be built in the borough.
And the council feels it must be extended "at least" to Hayes, but would welcome the "significant opportunities from having improved connectivity to Bromley town centre".
It states: "Given the existing pressures on the public transport network, and the urgency of the challenge of population growth, every opportunity must be taken to deliver the Bakerloo Line Extension as soon as possible and before 2030."
The response will be discussed at a Lewisham Council Mayor and Cabinet meeting on January 14. Any extension is currently not due until the 2030s.
