Inflammatory signs accusing the Metropolitan police of being racist have appeared across Lewisham.

The signs, believed to be created by Strike Magazine, display statements such as:"You're 28 times more likely to be stopped and searched in London if you don't have white skin, because we're still really racist", and " we've pointlessly targeted cannabis users in Lewisham, while other people legally drink their drugs" with #ACAB, an acronym used to say that "All Coppers Are B*******".

An anarchist magazine, Strike, have taken credit for the posters but said that they were not responsible for putting them up.

A spokesperson for the magazine said: "We created the posters as a response to the Met Police media campaign, where they spent £12.6 million on it in 2012 and £9.3 million in 2013, as far as we're concerned they wasted £500,000 on poster campaigns in two weeks at the same time they're reducing police officer numbers.

The spokesperson said that the Lewisham posters in particular, addressed people being stopped on the street for using Cannabis while other people were free to drink alcohol.

They also said: "Obviously alcohol is significantly more harmful than cannabis but David Cameron and Theresa May like a drink."

One of these posters was positioned at the bus stop on Lewisham High Street, directly opposite Lewisham Police station.

This poster was later removed by Clear Channel, who operate the London bus shelter on behalf of Transport for London.

A spokesman for Clear Channel, said: "On Sunday December 14, we received information that some of our sites had been access and the advertising had been replaced by posters from an activist group.

"Our operations team attended the sites throughout the night and re-posted advertising, in line with our standard practice."

The Metropolitan Police have refused to comment on the posters.
