A motorcyclist has died after a collision in Loampit Vale, Lewisham, this morning (September 12).
Police were called to the junction with Jerrad Street, shortly before 10.20am, following reports of an incident involving a motorcyclist who left the road and collided with a lamppost.
Three ambulances also attended and the motorcyclist was taken to a King's College hospital.
He died of his injuries at 1.03pm.
The deceased is a 22-year-old man from Brockley and next of kin are aware.
Formal identification and a post-mortem examination will take place in due course.
An investigation has been launched by detectives from the serious collision investigation unit - there have been no arrests.
Police want to trace a witness who provided information to police at the scene soon after the incident but who left before they could take their details.
It is believed a silver car may also have been at the location of the collision when it happened and the driver may have crucial information about what took place.
After the incident Loampit Vale was closed between the Jerrard Street junction and the Thurston Road junction.
Traffic was reported queueing back as far as Catford
The road has since reopened.
