A bacon enthusiast from Downham who purchased rashers from a Tesco store in Lewisham was shocked to find that it was two days out of date.

Paul Williams, a blogger from Farmfield Road, was disappointed at having to alter his lunch plans at the last minute upon returning home with the £2.65 snack.

The 37-year-old said: “My initial reaction was surprise and then disappointment that I was going to have to have a cheese roll instead of a bacon one."

Mr Williams also said finding the stock error has since put him off shopping at the store on Bromley Road.

He added: “To be honest I don’t really like shopping there anyway but it’s the closest shop to us.”

A spokesperson from Tesco said: "We're sorry that this product was on our shelves and we've been reviewing our procedures to make sure that this isolated incident doesn't happen again. If the customer returns the product to store we will be happy to give a full refund."
