Lewisham Hospital has received a generous donation for a new maternity ward from a couple whose child was stillborn.
Shavon Perkins and Richard Little have raised more than £17,000 towards a 'quiet little room' for parents who have suffered a stillbirth or miscarriage. The room projects a calm and supportive environment where parents can grieve.
Friends and family of Mrs Perkins, 35, and Mr Little, 36, of Grangehill Road, Eltham, raised £6,000 in a week, followed by a further £11,000 over the next month.
The couple recently had a son called Joseph who was tragically stillborn. Mrs Perkins said: "This campaign was an important part of our healing process."
Head of midwifery Helen Knower said: "To have raised this money following such a tragic event is very inspirational and we are so grateful."
