Drugs with a street value of £300,000 police believe were to be sold at the Notting Hill Carnival were yesterday seized at an address in Lewisham.

At 10.30am officers executed a drugs warrant at a flat in Broadfield Road and found a suitcase containing what is suspected to be 3-4 kilos of crack cocaine in the basement of the property.

Four people have been arrested at the address on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of drugs – a man and woman in their mid 30s, a 19-year-old man and a third man aged 51.

All four were taken into custody at a south London police station.

Superintendent Robyn Williams, Metropolitan Police spokesperson for Notting Hill Carnival, said: "These arrests show that we are committed to tackling those who set out with the intention of committing crime at Carnival.

"Throughout the weekend officers will look to ensure that any individual or group who may be seeking to disrupt or otherwise commit crime at carnival be arrested.

"If you know anyone who is planning to use Notting Hill Carnival to cause trouble, please call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 to help us keep the event a safe celebration."
