THE price of a card which allows residents in York to visit the city’s museums for free is to rise by £1.
City of York Council has approved plans to increase the cost of a combined YorkCard and library card, which also provides discounts for cultural and sporting activities, to £3.
The card will remain free for under-18s and residents will be able to renew it annually on an individual basis, rather than a fixed date being set for renewals.
They will have until the end of June to renew their cards, with the income being invested in York’s libraries service.
The council has said the cost of a YorkCard will be quickly recouped by anybody who uses it for a museum visit or makes use of other discount opportunities.
