LEWISHAM scooped two prestigious planning awards at a London-wide ceremony co-run by Mayor of London Boris Johnson last week.

Ladywell Fields was the winner of the Best New Public Space award and Tidemill Academy and Deptford lounge won the Best Built Project Community Scale award at the London Planning Awards on January 31.

The annual awards, which are held at City Hall, celebrate projects and organisations that have made a vital contribution to the capital.

Ladywell Fields is the third Lewisham space to have picked up the award in the past five years – following winners Cornmill Gardens in 2009 and Margaret McMillan Park in 2012 - and was entered by Lewisham Council and architects BDP.

Lewisham Council cabinet member for customer service Cllr Susan Wise said "I am delighted with these awards as they are great achievements.

"Lewisham Council officers have worked hard with partners over a sustained period to ensure the desired high standards of design and quality were met. "

Winning these awards is recognition of that excellent partnership work."

The awards are run by the Mayor of London, London First, The Royal Town Planning Institute and London Councils and were first set up in 2003.
