Brooklands Primary School, Blackheath, pupils celebrate launch of their own coffee shop

YOUNG entrepreneurs celebrated the launch of a coffee shop which will be run and staffed by pupils at a Blackheath primary school.

Schoolchildren in years 5 and 6 at Brooklands Primary School set up the shop from scratch – including designing, sourcing equipment, working out costs and making business phone calls.

The Old Nursery Coffee House will serve up coffees, hot chocolates, breakfasts and cakes to parents and carers at the school as part of their Children as Leaders project.

News Shopper was contacted by charming year 5 pupils - who also invited the Prime Minister and Mayor of Greenwich David Grant - ahead of the launch day on January 30.

Year 3 and 4 pupils also celebrated publishing the first edition of their glossy magazine Brooklands 2013 which is crammed with news written by the children.

Speaking ahead of the ceremony, Year 5 pupil George Cook said: "It is completely new and the first of its kind in Brooklands’ history.

"We hope you can come and see these fantastic projects."

The nine-year-old added: "We also invited David Cameron, but he has an important engagement that day and has declined."
