A FOREST Hill gallery and restaurant has received a top award from Lewisham Council.

Mother and daughter team Joanna and Emily Gore, who run Canvas and Cream, were handed the Social Enterprise Award by Mayor of Lewisham Sir Steve Bullock.

This is the first round of the borough's 2013 Business Awards with FLK Chinese Groceries in Catford awarded for its customer service and Brockley's Capital Bee honey producers bagging an environmental prize.

Joanna Gore said: "This is an arts hub, restaurant and therapy room. We have artist and artisan studios, a contemporary art gallery, 13complementary therapists and we also hold art workshops and community gatherings.

"Through our events we support people to make money through their art. So, receiving this award is great for us.

"It’s recognition from the Mayor of Lewisham of the contribution we make to our community and that means a lot to us".
