A 32-YEAR-OLD man is due to appear in court this morning (January 8) over a police chase crash near New Cross which left a teenager dead.
The 13-year-old was travelling with her family in a Volkswagen Polo when it was in collision with a Peugeot 308 which was being chased by police in Ilderton Road, South Bermondsey, near New Cross.
The girl - who was in the back of the vehicle - died of her injuries at the scene at the junction with Surrey Canal Road on Sunday evening.
Devon Newell, of Meeting House Lane, Peckham, has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving.
He has also been charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, no insurance and no licence.
Newell is set to appear at Camberwell Green Magistrates’ Court via videolink.
