White Ribbon Week: Lewisham Council football match in aid of ending domestic violence
2:59pm Friday 30th November 2012 in Lewisham By Priya Biring
WHITE Ribbon Week was honoured in Lewisham last week with a five-a-side football tournament between the Lewisham Young Mayor’s team and Lewisham Council.
The White Ribbon Campaign is an international campaign of men working to end men's violence against women. It relies on volunteer support and financial contributions.
On November 21 a five-a-side football tournament with the Lewisham Young Mayor’s team vs Lewisham Crime Reduction service took place at Bellingham Leisure Centre. The final score was 6 - 4 to the Crime Reduction Service.
Sir Steve Bullock, Mayor of Lewisham, said: "The White Ribbon campaign is a demonstration of humanity’s commitment to work together to stamp out a dreadful and terrifying situation and I applaud men who stand up and say "no" to violence against women.’’
Lewisham also had a White Ribbon Day Parade, with approximately 50 participants marching from Lewisham Shopping Centre to the Civic Suite, Catford on November 23.
